Emer first sat on a horse at age 7 when on a family holiday at Mount Julliette Estate. From that day forward, she did weekly riding lessons at a local riding school, never missing a day!
"I remember it was during the Foot and Mouth outbreak in Ireland so all livestock was in lockdown at the time. My Dad had pursuaded the lady running the yard to let me sit on a horse and walk up and down the lane on a lead rein. There was a sanitary mat to the entrance of the yard, the horse clipped the mat with his foot and let out an almighty buck! Although, it probably wasn't that big but for me at the time, it felt big! I will never forget my Dad's face, the look for terror! The lady leading me around turned to my Dad and said 'WOW she's a natural" And the rest is history.....
After school, Emer worked in Germany and Holland as an groom for top international showjumpers.
She furthered her education by obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Equine Management at CAFRE.
"After studying at uni, I knew a 9 to 5 desk job would not suit me, I knew I wanted to work with horses, but in my early 20s I didn't understand the industry enough and coming from a non-horsey family it made it that bit more difficult."
"It was actually when my heart horse 'City Star' had a career ending injury that actually got the ball rolling on my equine therapy journey. I found it very difficult to get the right information and support on sport injury & rehabilitation, different vets gave conflicting information and I felt very lost. I started researching and speaking to other equine professionals and this is were I met Michelle at The Irish Equine Rehabilitation & Fitness Centre. From there, I discovered this whole world of equine anatomy and biomechanics"
Emer furthered her education once more and became a qualified Equine Musculoskeletal Therapist in 2021 and continues to complete professional development training to evolve her skills and education to gain a deeper understanding of the equine body.
